Six Sentence Sunday

In honor of Father's Day, I bring you an excerpt from Coming Home, the first book in my contemporary romance series about three sons finding their true love. In this excerpt, Ryan accepts his new role as Layne's father.

Ryan squatted down to Layne's level and continued, “so you were my dad’s first mate?”
“Yep,” Layne raised her chin and pulled back her shoulders.
“I was once his first mate when I was little too but then I became a captain,” Ryan shared.
Layne’s eyes grew big, clearly impressed, “Wow, Grandpa Rob must have really trusted you.”
As Layne spoke those words and Tyra saw the intake of breath from Ryan, she smiled. Maybe all Ryan needed was a little dose of Layne to put his relationship with his father in perspective.
